International Committee of the Red Cross, based in Geneva, Switzerland is seeking to recruit a Thematic Legal Adviser.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. It takes action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. It is an independent and neutral organization, and its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. ICRC works closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. It directs and coordinates the international activities conducted in these situations.

The main role of the Unit of the Thematic Legal Advisers, which is part of the Legal Division, is to contribute to the role of the ICRC as promoter and guardian of IHL. It endeavors to ensure that IHL and other relevant standards are well-understood and duly taken into account in international relations. The Legal Division is seeing an adviser for this unit to handle several specific topics.
